Board of Review
A Board of Review (BoR) is how the Troop Committee tracks the progress of a Scout to determine his understanding of the ideals of Scouting and how he applies them in daily life in the troop. If the BoR is for rank advancement, the Board will discuss the Scout's development along the trail to Eagle, ask questions about any skills acquired for the rank, participation in troop activities, decide whether he is qualified to advance (evaluate the Scout's readiness for the next rank) . The Board of Review is also a time for the Scout to ask questions and to give feedback to the Troop Committee about activities, the troop program and his Scouting experience in both the troop and his patrol. It's an attempt to determine the Scout's attitude and his acceptance of Scouting's ideals both inside the troop and outside of it. This is a time for the Board to get a sense of the importance of Scouting in his home life, at school and outside of it. It is also a time to determine how the Scout perceives the troop and its adult leaders.
A Board of Reveiw is chaired by the Advancement Chair along with 2-3 other Troop Committee members during regular troop meetings. BoR's are typically held twice a month and the dates can be found on the troop calendar. It is the Scout's responsbility to complete all of the rank requirements, turn in all blue cards to the Advancement Chair, have a Scoutmaster Conference and then sign up for an appointment for the next BoR date.
